Robust Experimental Design/Regression Model Development for Fluidized Bed Combustor (FBC) Design and Manufacturing

The hydrodynamic effect of varying operating parameters in the Fluidized Bed Combustor (FBC) has been of interest to FBC design and manufacturing. Some experiments to investigate the gas/particle flows in the gaseous fluidized bed were performed with laser-based Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer (PDPA) to measure the rise velocity of the fluidizing particles. The robust experimental design method was used to evaluate the experimental conditions and to analyze the experimental results. A regression model was developed for the FBC cold model. The optimization of the FBC system design was discussed. In addition, several suggestions were made for FBC design and manufacturing to prevent the erosion and material wastage of heat transfer tube and to increase combustion and thermal efficiencies.
